If you’re ready to start selling digital products, but don’t know where to begin, what to create, or you’ve tried it and it’s not really working out for you… you’ve come to the right place!
First things first, what is a digital product?
A digital product is: a digital good that you create one time and once purchased, your shop will virtually send the digital files to the customer without you having to do anything.
One of the most important things about a digital product that sells is that it goes beyond just information. You want it to be USABLE the moment your customer downloads it.
Here’s the thing. There are certain tasks, or things that our customers know they SHOULD do, but they procrastinate on or ditch altogether because it takes too long, or it’s not their strength.
📣 Your digital product is going to be the thing they know they need, but they don’t want to create for themselves, which makes it incredibly valuable.
Top selling digital products are the ones that are considered HIGHLY USABLE, meaning that the customer purchases, downloads and begins using them in the moment.
So what digital product should you create? I’ve compiled some things to consider when thinking about a digital product.
1. What are people searching for?
Speak to your loved ones, friends and others in your life to see what would help them.
The thing is, your product doesn’t have to need to be a huge, complicated, super creative product — oppositely, it can be quite simple.
Once you think of an idea, research what exists already on Etsy. You may be one of the first people to have that idea OR you may discover that there is a big market, making it a supersaturated space.
2. What are you top skills and/or talents?
You will want to spend significant time considering what you are good at and/ or what you have a background in.
Jot down your thoughts to help you determine your skills with the following questions:
- What activities would I miss the most if I could no longer do them?
- What is something that comes naturally to me?
- What do people usually come to me for?
- What skills do people tell me I have?
- Where do I see myself a year from now?
- What is something that I want to learn?
- Am I data-driven or more creative?
- What’s my dream career?
3. What are you passionate about?
This passion will keep you focused, on track and determined when creating and maintaining your digital product business. While digital products are a great way to start your first business, it’s not always straightforward and glamorous so this is where the passion will come in.
Having a passion for what you’re working on will not only support you but will help you build a brand that speaks to your audience in a way that is authentic. Customers can sense when the seller is truly invested in what they’re selling.
